Flying over the Rotorua area on New Zealand's north island. Lots of hills, lakes and volcanic caverns. We've been so busy there I have had almost zero time to review any of the tons of photos taken this past week.
This is Mount Tarawera which erupted in 1886. You are looking into a volcanic crater which has greatly impacted the local area. The blue lake shot in this section, for example, is a geothermal one with A geothermal outflow channel fed by: Hot springs Silica terraces Subsurface hydrothermal vents As the water cools: Dissolved silica forms tiny particles These scatter light → that solid-looking blue color
Lots of blue water spots and "lakes" sometimes connected by underground rivers.
